Still happily traipsing around London.
Today, I met up with
kangeiko at the British Museum (you can follow fragments of
our adventures at Twitter). Guided lecture in the Middle East collection and refresher lessons from Kangeiko on Roman sex, gender, and sexuality while admiring classical statues by the dozens, and also the visibility of the cultural transfer from Egypt and Asia Minor to the Peloponnese and the Greek Isles. In vases, mostly. I'm not actually keen on porcellain, but it does keep popping up lately, what with my Munich Residence visit and its vast collection highlighting shifts in politics and economy in the colonial era -- say, Chinese societal upheavals meaning Japan suddenly cornered the market for exports to the West, with Chinese porcellain-makers then forced to adjust to the new styles, and eventually Eastern German manufactures like Meissen getting the hang of it all. Come to think of it, said lecture also discussed porcellain, shifting Ottoman styles reflecting trade connections and, of course, tastes.
Before you and I nod off: Afterward, I headed over to
ciderpress's, making our way to a dim sum dinner with
trille. Well, with
trille and alcohol.
Passion fruits on fire, indeed. Also, later, an organic Spanish white. Very fruity too. And I can't think of a segue into how the two of them discussed Thor the movie and made me need to see it in spite of Thor being the least interesting of all characters in Avengers for me, if by no means disliked.
(...do you know that point late at night where you're dead tired, but the thought of getting up from your prone position to wash up and brush your teeth is harder than to just keep typing?)
