Paging Dr. House
So the MRI found no spinal abnormalities. Hrm. Where's a differential diagnosis when you need one?
House. 250-word ficlet. Post-2x16 "Safe". Rated PG-13. House/Wilson.
As kisses go, this one is -- extremely surprising. Wilson draws back a little, blinks.
"I'm the cripple; you get to do the work."
The wiry frame's misleading. House is pretty strong. Wilson knows, because House's hands are tightening into the lapels of his shirt and jerking him closer. Wilson half-falls, half-shuffles; he comes to rest almost on top of House, on hands, feet, and the couch, staring down at his friend.
"This is work for you?" Wilson has to laugh. It comes out baffled.
House looks up, at him, eyes wide and a little more pensive than Wilson's used to in situations such as this. "Guess we hate our lives…."
"I'm not hating my life! Just because this is a really tough time for me right now --"
"…but we love our work." House looks at him seriously, and expectant enough to make Wilson close his mouth mid-sentence. House always gets it, he just screws it up when he acts.
Wilson swallows but doesn't move away, instead -- slowly, experimentally -- curls his right hand around House's shoulder. His acromioclavicular joint shifts under Wilson's hand, under a thin layer of muscle, vulnerable in a way House never is.
House doesn't need, or want gentleness. But maybe he does: Wilson lets his hand drift up and trace House's jawline before leaning in again, and House's near-inaudible sigh when he opens his mouth is acceptance enough.
So Wilson doesn't always understand. But when he acts, he always gets it right.
1. Composed (if not written) in a hospital waiting room before I ever read a House/Wilson fic. Let's see if that's a bad thing.
2. Happy now,
kangeiko?
3. And,
cathexys? This is a good example of a post-ep piece written in lieu of an analysis of the characters as I see them. & ;-)
