Paging Dr. House
So the MRI found no spinal abnormalities. Hrm. Where's a differential diagnosis when you need one?

House. 250-word ficlet. Post-2x16 "Safe". Rated PG-13. House/Wilson.

As kisses go, this one is -- extremely surprising. Wilson draws back a little, blinks.

"I'm the cripple; you get to do the work."

The wiry frame's misleading. House is pretty strong. Wilson knows, because House's hands are tightening into the lapels of his shirt and jerking him closer. Wilson half-falls, half-shuffles; he comes to rest almost on top of House, on hands, feet, and the couch, staring down at his friend.

"This is work for you?" Wilson has to laugh. It comes out baffled.

House looks up, at him, eyes wide and a little more pensive than Wilson's used to in situations such as this. "Guess we hate our lives…."

"I'm not hating my life! Just because this is a really tough time for me right now --"

"…but we love our work." House looks at him seriously, and expectant enough to make Wilson close his mouth mid-sentence. House always gets it, he just screws it up when he acts.

Wilson swallows but doesn't move away, instead -- slowly, experimentally -- curls his right hand around House's shoulder. His acromioclavicular joint shifts under Wilson's hand, under a thin layer of muscle, vulnerable in a way House never is.

House doesn't need, or want gentleness. But maybe he does: Wilson lets his hand drift up and trace House's jawline before leaning in again, and House's near-inaudible sigh when he opens his mouth is acceptance enough.

So Wilson doesn't always understand. But when he acts, he always gets it right.

1. Composed (if not written) in a hospital waiting room before I ever read a House/Wilson fic. Let's see if that's a bad thing.

2. Happy now, [info]kangeiko?

3. And, [info]cathexys? This is a good example of a post-ep piece written in lieu of an analysis of the characters as I see them. & ;-)

So the MRI found no spinal abnormalities.

This is good news, right?

Thanks for the drabble!

Yes and no -- no explanation why I'm still in low-grade but almost-constant pain. & :-/

Have you seen a massage therapist about the pain or talked to your physical therapist? After several injuries and one surgery, I've discovered that these are the folks to talk to (and my brother is an MD).

Yes, I'm have therapy sessions 2-3 times per week, and have always felt Axel-My-Physiotherapist does a good job -- he's in the PT Dep't of the same hospital.

Thanks for your concern, though. Much appreciated.

I'm sorry to hear about your health problems.

The ficlet was lovely. Especially the bit about Wilson tracing over House's jaw. Yum.

I'm glad the MRI was clear, though I'm sorry you're still in pain. Where is House, indeed.

Thank you! These are such fabulous characters, flawed and interesting; hard not to write about them.

Where is House, indeed.

Seriously. *g* Cheers.

Great drabbles. Points for acromioclavicular joint.

Glad your MRI came out well, but does this mean you still have pain they can't figure out?

*g* Thanks!!

And yes, you've nailed the problem: Looks clear enough but should have stopped hurting by now. Can't be the lack of exercise; I do forty minutes every day. Next up: Neurologist visit. Feh.

Will keep my friends updated, of course. Thanks for your concern.

very neat!!! (though now i'm thinking whether we can make the argument for all fanfic that actually engages with canon [trying to keep some stuff out of this discussion *g*] to fulfill that scenario?]

so sorry to hear they couldn't find source for your pain. hope they will!!!

House always gets it, he just screws it up when he acts.

yes

So Wilson doesn't always understand. But when he acts, he always gets it right.

and also yes.

I really enjoyed this :D Short, sweet, to the point, and the point was a very good one.

I always love knowing what lines work for people so I try to return the favour! :D

also, I am glad to see I am not the only one who likes to use the actual real words for parts of the body when writing about doctors who know about these things :)

Same here. It's a good practice.

And yeah -- I'm not a doctor, but I'm a professional in another area who finds herself using the proper terms in her head; stands to reason House & Co. would as well.

Exactly. I had a lengthy argument with my beta reader (early on in our relationship) about my use of the word sternocleidomastoid. Which is one of my favourite words, favourite places to be kissed, and was appropriate for a doctor to think, in my opinion. I won, and got three comments saying that that was their favourite part.

I think they need to be used sparingly because you don't want the average not doctor reader to be confused, but I do like it when 'the boys' think in those terms occasionally.

Eeeeeee!

Oh my, the lines: House always gets it, he just screws it up when he acts. and So Wilson doesn't always understand. But when he acts, he always gets it right.

Yes yes yes! And everything else? Yes!

Of course, I've only seen a handful of the show, but from what I've seen, this is spot on.

(I wasn't even going to read, but I wanted to comment on how excellent the opening line is, and I got SUCKED IN.)

Well I am glad about no abnormalities, even if it means that the actual abnormality is left unexplained and constantly painful. Sometimes, even if it sucks, it is better to at least have an explanation.

I didn't start watching the show until a few months ago, and haven't wanted to read much of the fic. But this? Damn near perfect, in part because you were untainted by fic, I think.
