New AtS Drabble for Anna
[info]the_royal_anna, this is not the kind of Happy Birthday present you wanted, I think. I mean, it's a birthday present. Just not happy. Except in a very grim Slayer way.

But you wished for Faith, post-"Salvage," and the colour red. What's a girl to write but something that's rated R-for imagery-and-themes?



Shrouded in light, she looks down at her body.

Nothing new under the broken sun.

Scratches, scraped knees from skidding over concrete. She had what the other kids had, and more. Its thin crimson lines, from broken glass beneath her sleep-bare feet, from shattered dishes, dishes shattered too close to her head. Little pools of it dotting her body, red at first, angry violet, then blue, yellow, green, fading away; fading so quickly after being Chosen that even if she'd paid attention, she would've missed the rainbow under her skin.

It's all in the blood, all right.

Oh, wow. It's beyond perfect. I love this to tiny pieces, and then some. That's my Faith. So beautiful and so hurt and so brave.

I'd quote the whole thing back at you, but this especially is so rich and striking:

It is a wee bit dark, but looking at AtS 4 and the end of "Salvage," this just seemed to fit, past and future and awareness -- I'd always assumed Wes had come up with the plan executed later, and he certainly had in the sense of details and actual planning. But a vampire and his weakness, wouldn't that be what Faith knew in her heart of hearts?
