Lo and behold, I wrote two drabbles for [info]mcshep_match. I know. Check those pigs for wing stubs already.

Marines' quarters? Pretty much the last place John would've looked for Rodney. )

Second drabble only works as a set - I jumped on poor [info]rustler's contribution and wrote a companion piece:

Rodney should hate sex, but he can't./John should love sex, but he can't. )

1. I claimed my [info]mcshep_peace prompt and am now rubbing my hands in glee at the endless possibilities. Which always shifts to wringing my hands in desperation at the endless possibilities. Oh, brain.

2. Juuust got this:

My Cliché Bingo Card! )

The...tasteful markers o' mine are prompts that immediately made go, Whee, but you're more than free to comment & make suggestions!

3. Vid recs for SGA:

First, this one gave me the shivers at one point and made me grin from ear to ear at all others: [info]crysothemis takes up the old theme of Rodney refusing to call Sheppard "John," and - well, watch the story unfold. For that's what it is - a John/Rodney romp through five years of not/addressing each other: Say My Name, vid by Crys

Second, [info]newkidfan always creates the most gorgeous art, visual and phonetic, and Language is no exception. This is billed primarily as a John Sheppard vid, and thank God it is, but at its heart, it's about Atlantis - not the city but its people: John and Teyla and Ronon and Rodney and Elizabeth and Ford and...yeah: Language, a vid by Mel

Third, and you are v. free to judge me, I harbour a not-so-secret love for this video by [info]le_mousquetaire - the angst! The romance! The cuts'n lyrics! Here you go: You Want Me Too, a vid by le_mousquetaire

Brain drain: only for professionals going away? I mean, I feel pretty drained even after staying in Germany, what with coming home only now - and going back tomorrow at an hour that recalls prepunctual feathered creatures.

That said, without much fanfare, have some icons & manips.

1. Girl!John

[info]mashimero made this manip of girl!John; please forgive me - mashimero and everyone with, you know, taste or something like it - for fiddling with that very cool version yet again, with the result under the cut. )

Of these, only one is made off the original version: icons of Lt. Col. Sheppard herself. )

2.
For the reason in my whiny header above, I didn't get to any genderswitch story of mine. Mea culpa, but: my sleep, too. I ♥ it.

As my icon implies none too subtly, I finally watched Star Trek - saw it with Mikey at the movie theatre around the corner, and we both adored it.

Not enough female characters, but that was to be expected; that I knew even from the squee posts. But at least Uhura rocked my socks more thoroughly than a clothes dryer on max. Not that the guys weren't quite impressive too. I'll admit to finding this Kirk hot in a way I'd never imagined, and being interested in almost every. Single. Major. Character, as portrayed by this actor set.

Someone, somewhere wrote about this Kirk being a much more cynical and postmodern version, and while I cannot comment on that, never having been a Trekkie, it did see definite parallels to my favourite-ever flyboy, one certain Colonel John Sheppard. Rodney McKay would grumble something along the lines of, "I told you so," but no, no, he didn't: not like this.

Rebellion and sacrifice, and also dorkiness )

In fact: is there meta? Thoughtful thinkiness on Star Trek?

[info]voguefan - he of the 50% job who works roughly 110% of the actual time, most of it in telephone conferences or occasionally other countries, poor boy - was in the office again today. We went to eat sushi and shared: Life, and other stuff ) Man, I'd missed him.

I am, however, saddened by the fact he won't come watch the new Star Trek with me: he likes "only dark sci-fi," which this certainly doesn't seem to be (not a Trek fan, although I spend my formative years with geek boys who were). Too bad I have no geek girls nearby. & :-/

[info]giandujakiss, whose entries are always worth a read, says - and links - like this:
Women are bitches, men are athletes. Another look at how women judges are perceived.

I'll just add to this - I think women who enter the legal profession, or any kind of competitive business environment, are in a particular double-bind. Not only are the very qualities often necessary to succeed seen as unfeminine and unattractive in a woman (aggressiveness, etc), but women are under more pressure to be aggressive simply to be taken seriously.

It's by now well-known that women are interrupted more than men in conversation (both by men and by other women). Ideas that sound good coming out of a man's mouth are ignored when they come out of a woman's. I know that in my own work, I have witnessed pretty awful conversations where women were simply ignored and talked over by their male colleagues, while the men never dared treat each other that way. So in order to simply be heard, women have to make even more of an effort to refuse to be interrupted, to aggressively take control of the conversation - which, of course, will then only contribute to her being stereotyped as a nasty bitch.
Her entry is cross-posted to Livejournal and Dreamwidth.

To end on a positive and deeply fannish note, [info]thegrrrrl2002 posted a picspam entry about Joe Flanigan's, respectively John Sheppard's tufty hair - squee & stories & more pics ensue.

On my way to bed, but:

1. [info]fatema writes post Season-Five John Sheppard/Anderson Cooper. I personally do not know the guy, but I gather a few of y'all are fans.

2. An article - and experiment that you can try out yourself - on Perceptual Insight. Very cool. Thanks, blogfriend who linked to it.

3. US History for Dummies. Because as recent events show, some people have trouble with anything that goes further back than last night's steak'n potatoes prepared by their dutiful stay-at-home wife. No slight against my stay-at-home wife friends intended; you're not whom I think of here.

Why this actually does NOT mean I have the best paying job ever. )

Returning to the fannish matters y'all actually care about now:

I gleefully noticed [info]runpunkrun has made a Stargate Atlantis mini mix called, 'Blowjob Queen.' Of course, it's a John Sheppard soundtrack composed entirely of Liz Phair songs - inspired by those Trio shots. Yes, those shots. Of course.

But. That's still not quite what I wanted to post about. (Jesus, is it 11:08pm again? Don't answer that.) What I really wanted to do from the beginning was to post these

Honeys, I'm home. Much as I love the parents, it was Time with a capital T, and besides: work again tomorrow. Had first Em (bringing herself, and how!) and then Mikey (bringing coffee & muffins for the three of us; it should seems to become a habit, after the last time when I was in hospital) over, though, so while the apartment was lonely when I came back, the evening at least wasn't.

In fannish news, I'm still not over SGA 5x19 Vegas. I couldn't cope (just couldn't cope /JCSS) and had to create a wallpaper-header-type graphic:

Gorgeous John is gorgeous. )

I had mentioned that if you really want to watch Vegas, you can tug at my virtual sleeve, yeah? [info]sheafrotherdon gave us a first tiny glimpse at her episode tag story, too.

If the only share-able thing about your day* was the fact you just had a baglet of Qianxi chestnuts for dinner, you wouldn't post at all, would you?

* I guess I could share how around 10pm, I drew a sheep for a co-worker, and she hung it up on the wall right across her desk. But the pun's in German. )

1. I forgot my newspaper in the office. & :-/ Good thing that for news about certain key issues, I have my flist:

"We don't believe in making it easy for low income women to get birth control, we're still arguing about abortions, and HEAVEN FORFEND we should teach comprehensive sex education in our schools, but we're on board for sterilizing low income women [...]"

2. We've heard a lot of talk about the upcoming US election & the choice -- oh hi thar irony! -- of Palin. Marianne Schnall has listened to a few female voices and repeated the question, what do women want? She got answers from the following:

Isabel Allende. Joan Blades. Eve Ensler. Melissa Etheridge. Gloria Feldt. Kim Gandy. Elizabeth Lesser. Courtney Martin. Kathy Najimy. Amy Richards. Deborah Siegel. Eleanor Smeal. Gloria Steinem. Loung Ung. Alice Walker. Jody Williams. Marie Wilson.

3. John Sheppard makes me happy. Or more precisely, this fellow fan on [info]sheppard_daily made my evening after I came home late again. Click the image for a veritable John-a-palooza:

Now if only they were high-res. /image snob Also, the font is called "Local Girl Uneven." Yes, that cracks me up, in context.
