Ack! Foiled yet again!

Some of you guys - you have my honest admiration: no idea how you managed to write Yuletide Madness stories: all I could manage was to hobble sneak out and check my mail both on the 23rd and on the 24th.
I do recall there are always leftover prompts, right? That we can write and upload between between the Yuletides?
Because I had already set my sight on a few Dollhouse and Dexter prompts, among others. (On a related note: HOLY SHIT, DEXTER!!11!!!!)

Shows (not recaps as such)
Nov. 28th, 2008 | 08:29 pm
So they cancelled Pushing Daisies. Don't get me wrong; of the non-cancelled shows I've been keeping up with, Spooks and Friday Night Lights and Dexter and Life and The Sarah Connor Chronicles and House remain enjoyable (although House is, as ever, on notice re: its treatment of female characters), just - none of them are particularly upbeat.
...okay, yes; Dexter cheers me up enormously, but that's a) vaguely disturbing and b) not making it an upbeat show per se. PD was - all whimsy and joy and oodles of gentle melancholy cleverly, fancily and oh-so-colourfully wrapped. Was it in love with its artsy, artificial self? Absolutely, but I never found it too sweet or cutesie, what with all these undertones in far less than perfect harmony.
As for shows I abandoned? I gave Heroes another try - for three eps of Season Three downloaded early on, and then I chucked it into the trash can where it belongs. ( Spoilers, I guess, for HS 3x01-03 )
Also deleted all my Heroes icons because dudettes, so not a show I want to be associated with in any way. (And look, people, I watch Stargate Atlantis proudly...well, no. 0 :-) But I watch it with ♥.) Speaking of, much as I loved Mohinder, Claire, and Hiro, thinking that Angela Petrelli was da bomb, the show as a whole is just not worth my time. Fans with more stamina and stubbornness: Feel free to browse my galleries of Heroes and Heroes Actors icons; I'll do away with the folder after Christmas.
Didn't continue Gossip Girl, either. I enjoyed it, mostly Blair and Serena and Dan, but really, who has the time. Says the girl on crutches who is driven to the physio-rehab clinic for weeks and weeks, I know. I know. Quite possibly, I just wish I had their problems?
(Bones is upbeat, of course. And I adore it - same for The Sarah Jane Adventures and Burn Notice, the latter being on a break, though. And I just remember I have some The Middleman left to watch! Anyone know about the status of that show?)

drawing cards and making wishes down by the well
Sep. 30th, 2008 | 10:51 pm
music: Rachael Yamagata - I Want You
"17 minutes by foot?" Whom did that on-line route planner hire to determine that time, Usain Bolt?
I mean, look: I sang* the entirety of Five Hundred Miles, Hotel California, My Bonnie, Mrs. Robinson, Yesterday, Dust in the Wind, Herr Deine Liebe, and the parts of Loch Lomond that I remember: that's how long it took, a good thirty minutes, despite my brisk pace (and my feet in asics GT-2100).
...what? Girl scout? Not me; my BFF of teenage years was a scout**, though. We spent many an afternoon in her cozy room with tea & her guitar. & ;-)
* It was raining heavily, and there were no people around. Don't worry unduly.
** no such division in Germany.
In less folk(ish)-song-related news, since I was home this weekend, with proper access, I have started to catch up with my tv.
So, as my icon indicates, I've watched the second episode of True Blood. What? I'm a sucker for...wait, let me try this again. I really crave -- oh, bloody hell: Give me a twisted vampire story, and I'm game-face.
( True Blood )
( Dexter 3x01 )
( SGA 5x10 First Contact )
Exercises now. I hear the doctor is in, and mean as ever. Speaking of ever: If you were waiting for a chance to make my over-worked and under-fanned self happy, you can totally do it by telling me about aby good Cameron/Thirteen fanfic you come across.
Finally, of course: L'shanah tovah!

Dexter 2x09? Can I just say, HOLY SHIT!? ::has to watch next one, too::
No, I still haven't looked at the SGA 4x09 reviews & analyses. Then again, is anyone really waiting with bated breath? Still bursting with love for John and Rodney, in any case, so I did make ( 3 quick McShep icons )
Also, 'tis the season again:
Happy Hanukkah!
I could wax not-quite-poetically about that well-known fact of Jewish holidays beginning at sundown, but the truth is,
vaznetti posted her own greetings, and I went, Ooh, right!

Still the most recommendable show on tv, but for the first time, like
selenak, I was bothered about a Dexter plot line/character arc; see in her review for both her thoughts and my comments.

So empty so strange
Dec. 19th, 2006 | 10:32 pm
Strolling through the department store's food section with all its imported and home-grown delicacies, I passed a booth where they were having an offer of French oysters, freshly flown-in. I had to kick and scream at fight the urge to go for it.
Somewhere out there is a millionaire aristocrat's kid whose parents are baffled about her love for hot dogs and beer.
As for Dexter 1x12? ( ! )

I'M IN UR SUPERMARKET, INSPIRING UR GRANDMA*
Dec. 11th, 2006 | 08:40 pm
Stood at the cashier of the organic supermarket right next to my pt office, had this old lady -- perfectly coiffed, expensive beige coat -- look at my groceries and inquire about my use for the ginger root, whereupon I told her I'd pestle it with my awesome caipirinha pestle, featuring heavily in this LJ every summer, and add it to my black tea plus sugar and milk for maximum spicy goodness. She seemed genuinely interested and told me she'd have to try that, too.
In conclusion, I win at spreading the love for tea variations but lose at everything else: don't ask about my five-hour exam this morning.
* Thanks to
siriaeve, I now know where the phrase comes from.
PS: Oh! Dexter fans,
selenak and I have been talking about 1x11 in her LJ; come join us if you want to.

Leftover squee from last week, with the occasional capslock warning: ( SGA 2x12 Echoes from 1. to 10. )
And hey, I finished the Multifandom Drabble-to-Ficlet Meme. If you are interested in the shows people requested (House, Atlantis, Firefly, The X-Files, Alias, Dexter, Veronica Mars, The West Wing, Battlestar Galactica, or Angel), click this tag.

I am fondly reminded of my American High School AP US History teacher, who had just that first name...and was told by wide-eyed students that they'd thought she was of Native American descent before seeing her in the flesh.
Anyway, since I'm too groggy to be studying right now, just one or two (or three) sentences each about recent TV shows.
( Dexter )
( House )
( Stargate:Atlantis )
( Supernatural )
( Torchwood )
( Veronica Mars )

I'll go out on a limb and say if you're not watching Dexter, you're missing something.

In other news,
a) new default icon! Danny icons so well (among other things. Talented guy). I identify most with Zoe, quite obviously, but I have yet to finish her icon.
b) ( all the wackos bother me at home. )
c) ( PT )
d) I wrote a little drabble for
angela8675: ( Rita & Kara Thrace - Dexter & BSG, PG, no spoilers )
e) NEW SGA. I CAN'T WAIT. I just must, since I have to study for an hour more and will talk to Auburn afterwards. That's okay.

( Brief reactions to Spooks/MI-5 so far )

Check-in time
Nov. 14th, 2006 | 08:00 pm
Enjoyed breakfast with
mandysbitch this morning -- since she isn't in town for very long, we had to make do with a little hour before I took my train and a lot of fruit salad plus tea with soy milk and honey in my "cute apartment" (her words, not mine; I think of it as "the place where all my hard-earned* money goes"). ( If you're wondering who she is )
vervealemania, I'll call you after I've rested my back on the sofa for the duration of either Dexter or Torchwood.
Oh, another one of the written-on-the-train drabbles:
For
wicked_socks. Because the world clearly doesn't have enough 100 words of 1st person POV serial killer introspection drivel. ( Dexter & Ronon - Dexter & SGA. PG. No spoilers )

Came home, slumped onto the sofa and didn't leave it for quite a while. Class plus little sleep does not for a fit Mona make.

God, I've missed this show. (And how could I forget it in my earlier meme list, along with The West Wing? *sigh*)
( Squeeview House 3x05 )
Which brings me to the fanfiction actually envisioned: The first three meme responses; I'll work my way through them as I can – I hadn't thought there would so many folks interested.
( Fox Mulder & Charles Gunn -- TXF & AtS, rated G, no spoilers, 200 words )
( Rodney McKay & Veronica Mars -- SGA & VM, rated G, no spoilers, 370 words )
( Rita & Angel -- Dexter & AtS, PG, pre-series for Dexter, 491 words )
