Saw "Be the biggest among all your friends!!" spam in my junk mail folder and immediately thought, but why would I want to-- before remembering that on-line spam (much like real life) isn't isn't from women for women, i.e. isn't fandom.

In more positive news, after coming home from the Sunday half of the weekend's all-day classes, I watched yesterday's Tatort. The Münster duo is my favourite, and this episode was especially delicious -- a crossover with the Cologne Tatort ( ... )

The things you learn when you browse through regulations in order to find out pertinent details -- did you know § 8 ff of the StAG (yup), the German Citizenship Code, allows for naturalisation of a foreigner married to a German only if "it is guaranteed that he will integrate himself into German society"? I mean, I'm all for high levels of abstraction, but...

Didn't go for dinner yesterday night -- we just sat back, dishing the dirt, drinking enough tea to make an Englishman jealous, and eating the rest of the chocolate-covered gingerbread. (Mmh. Chocolate-covered gingerbread.) Tonight, after French course, a few of us élèves will go and see L'Auberge Espagnole II -- depending on who of the course participants actually joins the fun, it'll sound a lot like the beginning of a joke: A German girl, a Russian guy, an Italian girl, and a Moroccan guy went to see a movie... Anyway, the first one was priceless, and not just for people who did a university exchange year. Anyone here watched it?

So we had this big house barbecue session in the (ever-popular) courtyard in the back. My skirt's very tight in the waist now. Ouch.

So. Right now, I'm just this walking, talking mass of inter-/supranational rules & regulations (a very odd feeling, let me tell you). Anyway, I thought I might put this mostly useless knowledge to, well, good use:

What you can't do in this town, no matter how much you want to: Hassle and bike-honk at some geezer toddling across the street--it might just be your future prof or doctoral thesis advisor.

What you can do in this town when you really, really want to: Buy a tub of Ben&Jerry's KarmelSutra (for an astronomical price at that one gas station) after many academic adventures.

What you can't do anywhere without a Nigerian diplomat present: Open a wooden crate with a kidnapped & unconscious Nigerian ex-minister found within the cargo hold of a Boeing 707 bound for Lagos as long as properly declared as diplomatic baggage.
