Aw, London. Sprawling and crowded, overpriced everywhere but in fresh produce markets & Desi restaurants in Brick Lane, but also familiar, welcoming, and warm in the literal and metaphorical sense, with lovely friends old & new, and could this any more sound like a mix between a travel report and a Hallmark card?

So, the day, what I did, during:

On my way home again, actually: kangeiko will be cookin´ a nice red Thai curry for us. I´m bringing the chicken. Already feeling all manly, rowr.

Arrived safe'n sound at kangeiko's after the quickest-ever trip into London. Was greeted not only by Kangeiko & a steaming cup of tea but also her flatmate in her underwear--laundry day, she hastened to tell me.

Either way, this party sure is off to a great start.

Booked a flight to London today and, thanks to the utter loveliness of my friends, have quite a few highlights planned already -- just a week, really, but it won't necessarily be vacation-only; I plan to pounce on all and any job opportunities.

Should you have any advice -- or links -- on how to best structure one's CV for the UK job market, I'm all ears (and ♥s)!

(If job search musings & inquiries bother you in any way, it's probably best to take me off the flist. I'll cut-tag rather liberally, as always, but from now on, expect little to no study whining and a lot Oh My God The Job Market, It Is A Fierce Beast Indeed! whining.)

wingsmith, ciderpress, I couldn't remember if you were fine with unlocked photo posts; do tell me if so. & :-)

My memory card, it just doesn't seem to fit into the slots hereabouts. This is not a bawdy metaphor: I cannot post substantial parts of my photos because the computers in kangeiko's house and, indeed, all of England aren't compatible.

After Friday's Museum Tour, however, I found an internet cafe (where on Earth is the accent aigu on a UK keyboard?!) with a card reader, stored a big batch on Gmail, and uploaded one to Scrapbook. One that, I think, says a lot in a few pixels. ( In the British Museum )

(Re-)booked a flight -- London, to let myself be pampered by kangeiko from April 9th onward. I have so many vacation days left over from last year that I could easily take two more weeks off, and I cannot use them for much longer. But mostly, I just need a break from working 9 to 8 and then having classes or study group till 10.

After a little trip to the Tower, St. Pauls, the Strand, Trafalgar Square, St. James, Mayfair, a corner of Green Park, Oxford Street, and Tottenham Court Road, I'm back and drinking tea again, after a v. simple but v. savoury dinner*. Now I want to invest in an athena25. Seems they are awesome around the house.

* I'll spare you the food porn, for once

If you take a plane to London from Germany? Be prepared that the bus ride from Stansted Airport into the city takes longer than the flight itself.

Anyway, if you can read these lines, I´ve made it to kangeiko´s house safe and sound. Sound-ish, anyway. & ;-) We've already eaten take-out Japanese, had plenty of tea in her pretty place, and are just about to head into central London -- she for her dissertation, me for, well, LONDON. Which feels like home, still. Again.

But the rides up to the point where we met were long. And ouch. Here, have a drabble (House, after 2x17, rated G):

London-dwelling kangeiko points out a little problem with the official British suggestion...

1) you need to stay vigilant, the police are saying, and watch out for any suspicious people [...]
2) BUT we also need to make sure that we don’t descend into Islamophobia and racism as a consequence of the attacks.
How is this supposed to work?

We've all read about the immediate, informal reactions--the ones that gave us warm fuzzy feelings and the ones that made us angry or sad. As for media responses, you may want to take a look at UK Front Pages Today (via The Guardian).

thelastgoodname, in a post about Fanfic Recommendations, presents three key differences between livejournal and other blogging systems and comes to the following conclusion:

"What all this leads to is the supposition that livejournal supports and creates a much more community-oriented blogging experience than other blogging systems. Connected to this supposition is the notion that livejournal might perhaps be more friendly to women's methods of interaction, which are generally more conversational, cooperative, consociational, and interested in compromise rather than in being right."
