Back from
thethirdmona's birthday party, and in lieu of cheerful babblings about the folks (cool) and the food (hot) [and also the other way 'round], I'll just share one of the gifts with you:

You see - or, well; you don't! - this one blinks when you press its bottom: yellow, green, blue, and red. Disco Duck doesn't advertise.

I'm back from England and have not yet gotten to uploading photos or the contents of my very pleased brain (oh, I wish that were possible), but I thought you should know that last night, I dreamed of angry hamsters that bounced around like kangaroos and pursued humans to spread rabies - think tiny spitting cobras with fur.
kangeiko: Your mind is a very strange place sometimes.
monanotlisa: Oh, do tell.

"Don't you dance the salsa at Rico's on Wednesdays?" is not that bad a line, as pick-up ones go. And the little Spaniard - David - who asked it was so sweet about the whole thing that I chatted with him for a moment, exchanging names and such. Alas, the sad truth is that Salsa is easily my worst dance - I can do the Cha-Cha-Cha like you wouldn't believe, and if you give me someone with a more spirit, less shuffle, rumba's fine too (although honestly, I'm not entirely sure there are able-bodied people who cannot rumba). My tango skills are...there. Somewhere. Overall, when it comes to feet and moving them to the rhythm, I'm exactly as Middle-European as I look, and a lot better at the so-called standard dances than any Latin dance. Aw, Waltz. Or a Viennese Waltz, with a good partner.
...I miss ballroom dancing. Never mind the heart-related trauma my teenage self suffered at the studio. & ;-) Still, one thing hasn't changed since then: male dance partners are hard to come by - the standard ratio back in the day was 2 to 1. I'm not interested in one night of dancing based on the guy's hope of "dancing" later on: I'd want to do lessons again, find events, and so on and so forth.
Ack, I can't brag about mymeasly Tanzabzeichen in Bronze at this point because there is no English term for it. WTF?

bodynotlisa: Tired. Let's go to bed.
mindnotlisa: Nooo! It's only midnight!
bodynotlisa: Do I look like I care? We switched time-zones not once, but twice, girl. And, sorry to say, we're just not twenty anymore.
mindnotlisa: Spoil-sport. My natural rhythm, I need to get back into that!
bodynotlisa: You need to get back into bed, is where.
mindnotlisa: Yeah, whatevs. I shall simply ignore you.
bodynotlisa: Eyelids: I am making them droop, look? Oops, right, you can't.
mindnotlisa: Fine! FINE! I hate you.
bodynotlisa: *smirk*

Iran: keep boosting the signal:
If you use Twitter, please set your location to Tehran & your time zone to GMT +3.30. Iranian security forces are hunting for bloggers using location/timezone searches. The more people at this location, the more of a logjam it creates for forces trying to shut down Iranians' access to the internet. Cut & paste & pass it on.

I was checking my phone cam for the pics taken yesterday during my brief reprieve with my friends and colleagues by the river...

I like the flowers, I like the daffodils, but I don't like those johns much.
Jun. 22nd, 2009 | 10:37 pm
Just wanted to return the ten euro I'd borrowed from my cool neighbour couple next door...and ended up chatting with her laid-back florist self for half an hour in the hallway - a conversation that also featured a hospital on the less than ideal side of the tracks of that nearby big city. Where her old mother with a heart problem ends up in from time to time. Where, the last time, she was sharing the room with a prostitute. Who was receiving johns in the bathroom. Who had her mother and aunt come by and aggressively demand the money afterwards.
If anyone of you still thinks of Germany as a quaint, sweet place with nothing but half-timbered houses, that should do it.

One of the guys I'm currently writing is a film-maker and producer. Also, a journalist and writer trying to make it big. Yeah, I too smiled at first, but I do like reading his messages. He doesn't use language like most Germans do: as a functional tool. Instead, he plays with words, shapes them into something(s) new. An end in addition to a means. I approve, of course.
::
Speaking of,
havocthecat, always worth reading, has a few none too sweet words to say about Women in the BBC's Version of Merlin. I only skimmed, as I'm not watching the show, but when could I ever resist forwarding patterns of authorial maltreatment?

When I was lying around a lot - knee-related, not laziness-related - I signed up for a few eBook sites. This is not blog-worthy. Via the mail just received, however, I now know that BooksOnBoard offers, "22% Off List On All Fantasy - PLUS Rewards Dollars! With Promo Code: UnicornsOnBoard"
I just. UnicornsOnBoard. & :-P

Fuck that noise."
- The New York Times, on House, M.D. (spoilers, duh): "Shamefully, I would have been overjoyed if the season finale had ended with House and Cuddy electing to spend the summer together in Corsica."
While I'm not particularly interested in this pairing, the article raises interesting points. Also, ( re: both House and Bones - series finales! )

music: Erlend Øye - Sudden Rush
In non-fannish news:
1. Did I already ask y'all if wasabi-covered peas count as one of your 5-A-Day servings? (Om nom nom.) To my defence, I just had curry-flavoured kale'n garlic omelette before. Don't look at me like that: it was the perfect dish after my quick knee routine at the gym, all veggies'n protein.
2. Speaking of my knee: Not super but quite bearable to the extent that I haven't taken painkillers in what, two weeks, not even while walking in London. AND IN HEELS. (For the geographically and otherwise challenged: like Leeds, only prettier.)
3. My right leg is still noticeably thinner than the other. Woe. It does make me remember one of the rehab clinic physiotherapists, though, who was oddly cute and also a bit fond of me, in an of course very professional manner. Or at least he liked certain body parts of mine (healthy ones). I quote, "Now THAT'S a thigh! *admiring pat*" Don't we all want (oddly) cute people to tell us they love one - just one - of our muscular thighs?
