The Kirin beer he brought was nice enough, too. For a wine drinker.

Nov. 25th, 2009 | 10:04 pm

My icon says everything there is to say about my work day. Leisure time was much better, then: a good episode of Spooks, not to mention concurrent orgasmic noises from [info] sandynotlisa. If I'd known he'd like my Leberwurst* so much, I'd have bought some a long time ago.

* not a euphemism.

The parcel from amazon.co.uk came at a perfect time, in any case: I gave myself an early Christmas present.

Only SGA fans will understand )

While we're at it, did I mention Sandy had given me this as a little thank-you gift for lending him Seasons One to Three of The Wire?

Aww! )

Feeling the love

Nov. 17th, 2009 | 01:05 am

Fannish things I love right now:

  • my SGA Secret Santa assignment. I had been hoping for this wish, and I got it, also happening to adore the wish-er. Already got the big picture of my story - if not the details - mapped out in my mind. 's all good.

  • SGA Big Bang, all live and in colour. No time right now, but boy, I foresee a few fantastic months of great Atlantis novelisations. (Y'all, keep reccin'!)

Must also mention the artists: I cannot wait to check out what they created and would totally do it before reading the stories if only the images and vids weren't per se spoilery. I'm constantly in awe of some of my fellow fans' talent (and basically chanting, WE ARE NOT WORTHY in advance).

    Still, I contributed:

An unlikely mix, but I won't make two posts tonight. More FlashForward, now.

RL

I wish I hadn't gotten up today. Whine, whine, whine )

Wine at the end of it, though: my colleague two doors down did think it necessary (he's a smart fellow in every regard). Sandy still had that bottle of Mosel-Saar-Ruwer Riesling in the fridge, the Founder of the Friday drink-a-palooza still had two bottles of sparkling wine, and the rest is history.

Not long off the phone with The Best Sister Of Them All, but now, I need to share what the ever-fabulous [info - personal] anna_luna made for me:

A drawing of Girl!John indirectly off Ard, directly off my story Not Ockham's, Exactly (or, as a delightful fan on del.icio.us called it, Cadman, Girl!John, and a very close thing).

(Seriously, go tell her how awesome it is!! ♥)

Much as I love kimchi with an unholy passion, maybe those 400g for dinner were a bit too much? ::breathes fire for a while:: It's a good thing I have nigori sake to quench it.

I've gotten back into the swing of actually reading books again - Rubyfruit Jungle (♥ ♥ ♥) and Funny Boy and Elite: Auf den Spuren der Mächtigen von morgen.

I have three more novels off [info] 50books_poc lying on my den table (Blue Boy, Smile As They Bow, and Southland) but am sacrilegiously pondering a purchase of Limit, Frank Schätzing's new sci-fi thriller. On his writing as based on The Swarm )

Liest einer von Euch deutschsprachigen Lesern zufällig das Buch und möchte in Bälde einen kleinen Vortrag darüber halten? ;)

I don't have much to say, except that I'm working, exercising, and fighting the good bad fight.

[info]toft_froggy aka [info]toft, though, has! With the help of [info]thingswithwings, she finds out what kind of show Stargate Atlantis actually is. Or could be. Or should have been!

100 Days of Ep Tags - I'm all for it. Them. Um.

Sep. 25th, 2009 | 10:14 pm

Came home from work only now, mostly because I'm not much into early Monday morning stress, as I'm strongly suspecting that sort of thing is what gives people ulcers. Of course, just when I left, there it was: the boss's email from the US that said he was fine, we were fine, everything had gone great.

Ah, well. Me and my sake, we're having a great time right now.

SGA folks, do have a link to [info]friendshipper's excellent proposal-slash-poll:
What about kicking off 2010 with "100 Days of Episode Tags"? [...] I'm thinking low-pressure/no-pressure -- people sign up to take an episode and do (at their own discretion) a fic or art or vid, wallpaper, etc for it (with super-easy minimum word count on the fic, like 500 words or something).
I know I shouldn't sign up for - anything, basically; I inescapably have Deadline Issues. And yet. 'tis SGA, and also the perfect opportunity to re-watch favourite episodes and bask in the glory that's John and Teyla and Rodney and Ronon...

Boost the signal, yeah?

McShep Match is a-running

Aug. 28th, 2009 | 01:32 am

In fannish news, my fellow Stargate Atlantis fans of that persuasion should check out

[info]mcshep_match - to read, to feedback, and to vote on.

...or at least to guess the authors, one of which I am. & ;-) We like to believe our writing styles are distinctive, even unique! but objectively? Not necessarily, or at least: only to varying degrees. There are other factors at work, too, so this story - ah, I doubt anyone would recognise it as mine. ::obvious challenge is obvious::

5 SGA Fanfic Recs, accumulated ones.

Jul. 16th, 2009 | 11:14 pm

Mostly to be able to close some of these 40+ tabs in my FireFox. But also (no, really) because I wish to share the love!

Stargate Atlantis recommendations (all Sheppard/McKay)

The first one goes outside the cut because it's just that smile-inducing:

  • This Morning's Romanza by [info]busaikko (no spoilers, set in her A Hub for the Wheel'd Universe, rated PG)

"And you love me why?" Rodney asked, and shoved the cart sideways towards register six, beating out a hassled-looking teenage girl with an armful of sexy bras. John took advantage of the momentary distraction offered by the girl's annoyance to talk his heart rate down: he means like a friend, Sheppard, you know the line.

"Your manly shoulders," John said. "I just let you assume it was for your mind, but really? Totally a physical thing." He let Rodney unload the cart and was ready with his charge card as the checker totalled up the damage.

been looking for a savior in these dirty streets

Jun. 30th, 2009 | 01:54 am
music: tori amos - crucify

In fannish news, I'm disappointed that not a single person commented upon my [info]mcshep_match drabbles. I don't wish for hordes (not hoards; where would I store those?) of slavering minions but welcome criticism or pointers too. I just find that it's most frustrating to spend that hour between coming-home-from-work-at midnight and 1am writing drabbles, and have not one single person find it worthy of one single word of comment.

Yeah, yeah: entitled fanwriter is entitled, cry more, etc. pp. But it's my lj; I can whine if I want to.

...okay, enough of that. Have some icons:

Icons Star Trek, Leonard McCoy aka 'Bones' )

Icons of The Mentalist, if only the characters I have an interest in. 0 :-) )

SGA Times Three

Jun. 22nd, 2009 | 01:06 am

1. I claimed my [info]mcshep_peace prompt and am now rubbing my hands in glee at the endless possibilities. Which always shifts to wringing my hands in desperation at the endless possibilities. Oh, brain.

2. Juuust got this:

My Cliché Bingo Card! )

The...tasteful markers o' mine are prompts that immediately made go, Whee, but you're more than free to comment & make suggestions!

3. Vid recs for SGA:

First, this one gave me the shivers at one point and made me grin from ear to ear at all others: [info]crysothemis takes up the old theme of Rodney refusing to call Sheppard "John," and - well, watch the story unfold. For that's what it is - a John/Rodney romp through five years of not/addressing each other: Say My Name, vid by Crys

Second, [info]newkidfan always creates the most gorgeous art, visual and phonetic, and Language is no exception. This is billed primarily as a John Sheppard vid, and thank God it is, but at its heart, it's about Atlantis - not the city but its people: John and Teyla and Ronon and Rodney and Elizabeth and Ford and...yeah: Language, a vid by Mel

Third, and you are v. free to judge me, I harbour a not-so-secret love for this video by [info]le_mousquetaire - the angst! The romance! The cuts'n lyrics! Here you go: You Want Me Too, a vid by le_mousquetaire

McShep Match Miscellanea

Jun. 11th, 2009 | 09:01 pm

I'd love to participate in the McShep Match 2009 - War & Peace - see the invitation & outline post.

As I'll be gone for a work seminar in Frankfurt this weekend, however, starting tomorrow, I won't be able to sign up on the one day when this is possible: Friday June 12th, from 10pm GMT. (When is that?) Would anyone of you be willing to do it for me? ETA: Cheers, [info] - personalrheanna!

My team choice was very simple, not to mention visible in the fanart I made:

1 McShep Match - Team Peace - banner: full size )

3 icons off that banner. )

5 more icons, independent ones. )

A few fannish links

Jun. 6th, 2009 | 12:35 pm

The open tabs, they tease me so. Already saved most fic links into my del.icio.us account, though (phew). I plan to rec from it, or maybe just link, if I continue being overworked and listless.

SGA

Just in case you missed this v. important sociological discussion:
"considering that Rodney was shot in the ass with an arrow, who is better at tending to [completely non-sexual] butt aches - Rodney, drawing on the experience of having had his gluteus maximus injured? Or John, who cared for Rodney and his poor, sore ass after the stitches had healed?"

BtVS

[info]grimorie, she said it well:
"The new Buffy movie doesn't involve Joss Whedon? Or any of the cast/characters from the TV series?
Oh, frell NO!
Buffy without Joss Whedon? A world of NO! Buffy doesn't need a reboot! Buffy doesn't need to be darker (AND DOOD, OBVS THESE PEOPLE DIDN'T WATCH BUFFY IF THEY THINK BUFFY NEEDS TO BE DARKER!). And if they make Buffy into something like twilight I will slay some Hollywood producer ass!

There is not enough 'no' in the world for this. The only way another Buffy movie should make it to the big screen if it already uses the timeline and the characters involved already established from the series."

Firefly

[info]the_grynne muses in a post here,
"In my own personal canon...Simon and River Tam are about as Caucasian as Keanu Reeves or Maggie Q. This is not out of any disrespect to the actors who portray them - Glau and Maher's performances are a huge part of why I love these characters - but because in my own head-space, it makes a lot more sense than grafting all of the Tam's history and characteristics and cultural traits onto characters whose identities are monolithically or even predominantly 'white'."
She also gets the weirdest unrelated comment ever. Whut?

When the light hits the window

Jun. 2nd, 2009 | 11:48 pm

Brain drain: only for professionals going away? I mean, I feel pretty drained even after staying in Germany, what with coming home only now - and going back tomorrow at an hour that recalls prepunctual feathered creatures.

That said, without much fanfare, have some icons & manips.

1. Girl!John

[info]mashimero made this manip of girl!John; please forgive me - mashimero and everyone with, you know, taste or something like it - for fiddling with that very cool version yet again, with the result under the cut. )

Of these, only one is made off the original version: icons of Lt. Col. Sheppard herself. )

2.
For the reason in my whiny header above, I didn't get to any genderswitch story of mine. Mea culpa, but: my sleep, too. I ♥ it.
