In fannish news - yes, only got to reading the flist now - I cannot believe they cancelled The Sarah Connor Chronicles. I just - what the hell? Strongest, fiercest show on that network, with plot and characterisation, oh my. And then this. Clearly, there were just too many wimminfolks on screen, who had, like, ideas. Power. Courage. Can't possibly be of interest to, y'know, anybody out there.

Sharing the love!

The love of both
vylit and Sarah Connor, that is. It's the former's graduation, so I made her a present featuring the latter:
( Sarah Connor, she of the Terminator Chronicles - a banner )
Watching the rest of the Bones finale now, and tomorrow, it's aforementioned company celebration in Mainhattan. I'll be back Sunday; you'll be good, okay? "Good" in the sense of "writing lots of John/Rodney smut," of course.

Just a post-by, more or less. I'd wanted to post a multi-fandom icon post - SGA, The Wire, Skins, among others - but got stuck* reading lj.
* in a good way! Like cheesecake frosting sticks to home-made muffins.
That said, a few links:
1. Follow-up to last night's The Sarah Connor Chronicles post: If you're looking for meta, follow the links in the comments - plenty to ponder, I promise.
2.
ciderpress posted a collection of the entries in the First Asian Women Carnival. Haven't managed to read more than two yet, but don't let that stop you.
...yes, my icon combines topics #1 and #2.
3. In less cheerful news, this rings way too true: Biphobia. It's What's For Dinner, by

Cheers to
trobadora for saying her piece, too.

TSCC & SOUNDTRACK, ANYONE?
Apr. 6th, 2009 | 01:07 am
Jesus Christ. I just watched TSCC 2x21 Adam Raised A Cain, and the final scenes sent shivers down my spine.
Too tired for elaborate thoughts now, especially as no one seems to read 'em - not being passive-aggressive, folks, just stating a sad fact - but if you happen to have seen others fans' reviews or meta, please feel free to link me to them.
If this show gets cancelled, I'm going to throw things at the tv. Certainly join any campaign we fans can come up. Alas, sending mail or memorabilia is far less sufficient than sending a Terminator into the FOX execs' studios. (What? A girl can fantasise.) The Sarah Connor Chronicles enriched my life in the oddest way, I realised the other day on the orthopaedic doc's couch: when he was jabbing that fifth syringe of its kind into my knee, through the scar tissue, straight into the joint space, all I thought was, Well, Sarah Connor would not whimper at this point. In brief: WWSD?
::
After returning from the parents', I baked an organic apple crumble and spent three quarters of an hour at the fitness studio slash gym around the corner (after which I of course ate half the apple crumble).
monanotmona proclaimed me crazy for going there from 10pm to 11pm, but as a night person (I wanted to spell that "knight person;" I think I just should have), I could not see any fault with this schedule and am now very glad I went, what with my knee feeling better than it did all weekend.
While both of these - apple crumble & happy knee times - are totally lj-worthy, I'm posting about RL for a reason: I am listening to random mp3s on my player while I work out, but much as I like my current marriage of Amanda Marshall & Death Cab for Cutie, I'd like to branch out.
Do you happen to have any music mixes for exercising handy? (Fan-mixes very welcome, of course!)

Bulletpointed reviews on the shows I've watched over the course of the last weeks, and let's start with this most recommendable one:
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles [up to 2x18]:
( On Jesse and Riley; on the women of this show; on CameronandJohn )

Gillian, SGA, and TSCC
Dec. 7th, 2008 | 02:20 pm
Will be released tomorrow, most likely. In the mean time:
tree has a Happy 40th Birthday, Gillian Anderson! picspam post that just - guh. As one of the bloggers said in the comments, she is so gorgeous it sometimes sort of hurts to look at her.
The other celebrity who makes me feel that way is coming up next - or rather, his incarnation. I love John Sheppard a lot more than Joe Flanigan for a million reasons, but either will take my breath away. *rising music*
( SGA 5x17 Infection )
I watched The Sarah Connor Chronicles up to TSCC 2x11 now and keep being invested as well as scratching my head. ( Meta musings )
What say you?

Shows (not recaps as such)
Nov. 28th, 2008 | 08:29 pm
So they cancelled Pushing Daisies. Don't get me wrong; of the non-cancelled shows I've been keeping up with, Spooks and Friday Night Lights and Dexter and Life and The Sarah Connor Chronicles and House remain enjoyable (although House is, as ever, on notice re: its treatment of female characters), just - none of them are particularly upbeat.
...okay, yes; Dexter cheers me up enormously, but that's a) vaguely disturbing and b) not making it an upbeat show per se. PD was - all whimsy and joy and oodles of gentle melancholy cleverly, fancily and oh-so-colourfully wrapped. Was it in love with its artsy, artificial self? Absolutely, but I never found it too sweet or cutesie, what with all these undertones in far less than perfect harmony.
As for shows I abandoned? I gave Heroes another try - for three eps of Season Three downloaded early on, and then I chucked it into the trash can where it belongs. ( Spoilers, I guess, for HS 3x01-03 )
Also deleted all my Heroes icons because dudettes, so not a show I want to be associated with in any way. (And look, people, I watch Stargate Atlantis proudly...well, no. 0 :-) But I watch it with ♥.) Speaking of, much as I loved Mohinder, Claire, and Hiro, thinking that Angela Petrelli was da bomb, the show as a whole is just not worth my time. Fans with more stamina and stubbornness: Feel free to browse my galleries of Heroes and Heroes Actors icons; I'll do away with the folder after Christmas.
Didn't continue Gossip Girl, either. I enjoyed it, mostly Blair and Serena and Dan, but really, who has the time. Says the girl on crutches who is driven to the physio-rehab clinic for weeks and weeks, I know. I know. Quite possibly, I just wish I had their problems?
(Bones is upbeat, of course. And I adore it - same for The Sarah Jane Adventures and Burn Notice, the latter being on a break, though. And I just remember I have some The Middleman left to watch! Anyone know about the status of that show?)

Show Review Round-up: TSCC
Nov. 13th, 2008 | 10:33 pm
music: Cake
Reading? Not the only thing you have time for when injured (speaking of - the reading, not the being injured - I finished Dying Light in between physiotherapy sessions #1 and #2 today. The thriller was bloody and entertaining even if McBride, for all his admittedly vivid characterisation and deliciously imperfect hero, only rarely manages to avoid the pitfalls of stereotyping like two world-class secretaries in opposite corners of the office when it comes to women).
At night, I could catch up on some television. Expect many, many tv reviews and commentaries.
( The Sarah Connor Chronicles - up to 208 )
Should you be aware of meta comms - or posts - for TSCC, please link me.
(Of course, the last time I tried to play in a new fandom and speculate with others, a bunch of the fans coming to my lj to join in had either the IQ of Forrest Gump or were raised in barns, as they merrily spoiled the major plot mystery for me and everybody else visiting. I forget sometimes how awesome my corner of fandom is, especially SGA. I ♥ you guys, I do.)

But when I wanted an icon featuring him, I didn't even start looking. Maybe I'm being unkind to TSCC fandom, but either way, I thought it might very well be faster to just make 'em myself.
TSCC Icons ( - 3 x Agent Ellison, 2 x Sarah, 1 x Cameron )
Speaking of Ellison and FBI Agents--if you like him, if you watched Supernatural and liked Victor Hendrickson, go read this story:

I'm going to buy a bottle of wine now. And return to my books.
I was catching up on The Sarah Connor Chronicles last night, and I got to the one that I think is the one before the infamous ( character spoiler! ) shows up. I saw the preview for ( character spoiler! ), and looked at the screen and said, "( Actor spoiler! )? Really?"And I told her:
I thought so too--visually, ( there's them spoilers )
That's been my worry a little too. I'm sitting here wondering at myself and fandom if ( we can or can't or what? )Now, two things:
1. I ♥ Lin's acronym for him so much.
2. I love James Ellison. I have a soft spot for ( spoilers! )

"John's at school. Sarah's out buying groceries--ridiculous, frivolous, to think of Sarah Connor strolling down aisles of fresh fruit and viable meat and, hell, Twinkies from before the old joke about nuclear holocaust became insanely ironic (if he even sees a Twinkie before Judgement Day, it'll be too soon)--and Derek's in her room, pulling the trunk out from under her bed, pulling the guns from the trunk and ordering them neatly on the floor. Going through the motions of checking chambers, oiling mechanisms, counting bullets. The rote checklist in his head fills his entire world, and before he consciously registers the soft creak of the floorboard in the hall, he's already aiming at it.
The machine stands in the doorway, framed like a picture."

So, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to summarize badly any one (or more!) of my stories and I'll try to guess which it is. You could even pretend you don't remember the pairing or fandom to make it harder to guess."
